I had my 2000 jimmy radiator flushed about 3 mos ago, 2 wks ago,thermostat was sticking as temp.gauge shot up to 3/4,july 4th,vechicle started leaking coolant and some type of water which i thought was from a/c unit.mechanic pressure tested radiator and replaced bad radiator cap.2 days later i drove 2.5 miles to work without using a/c.shut off engine, engine started leaking further back from engine,leak was water.took back to mechanic immediately he said he left car running all day and told me it was my a/c unit,he pressure tested radiator again,checked all hoses.day after i picked up the vechicle i used it without the a/c unit, no leaks.last night i drove it exactly .7 miles shut off engine and noticed it started leaking water about midway back from engine, leaked quite abit and fast, eventually it stopped. since i am a female i am tired of being taken by mechanics, how can the water pump and or intake gasket be checked.i asked my mechanic how i would know if it was the water pump, his reply, you will know, it will start leaking water, helllo, this is what is has been doing.please help or give me a direction to head?

It's nothing to worry about because there is no pure water in your jimmy. It is residual condensate from your a/c. Leaves, dirt and all sorts of debris enter through the cowling screen and migrate to the bottom of the drain pan. A small hose from the drain pan exits the cab compartment and dumps the water you are seeing. You have muck in the bottom of the pan and it's not letting the liquid flow freely. Some techs will shoot some compressed air into the hose, it's just a temp fix and problem will return. To fix it some one will have to get into your dash, and just guessing about $500/$700. You can start by climbing underneath your vehicle and finding the hose, the drip source. I've had success using rounded,soft copper wire to clear the hose. But you have to be extremely careful !! If you push too forcefully you can puncture the a/c coil inside the drain pan. And that would be a real problem.

thank you for your answer. I have had the hose you are talking about blown out in the past as I have heard water rolling back and forth sounding like in the dashboard. However, ever since this leak started, I no longer hear it. It looks like the mechanic who changed the radiator cap was adding water to my radiator, as in the overflow resovoir it is water and when i run the vehicle even only a half a mile to 2.5 miles and shut off the engine, mind you, i have not been running the a/c unit all this time, the engine leaks midway back and it leaks a huge puddle, therefore, the level in the overflow resovoir has been going down, I have to add anywheres from a quart to almost a half a gallon of water at a time. Nobody likes to work on these vehicles so I have been told. If it was the hose that you mentioned that could be clogged, why would the coolant resovoir be going down? wouldn't the water pump cause the same reactions? I found a new mechanic but he is unavailable til this weekend. Anyone got any way to tell me if we are talking bad water pump here, last one was replace about 4 and 1/2 yrs ago out of state. I am afraid to drive vehicle.

turns out the water leak wasn't a clogged pan nor was it the water pump or radiator, it was a crappy mechanic who from the beginning missed a crack in a hose on the top of the engine. A new mechanic doing a pressure check on the radiator today and actually listening to what I was saying along where the water was dripping from, lo and behind, a crack in a hose about a 1/4 inch, fixed the hose and guess what....no more water leak. Altho the first mechanic who charged me over $100 probably really didnt flush the radiator since it had all kinds of rust in it. Stinks when men take advantage of a woman!
