hi, i got an interesting surprise today. i need to replace the rear brake backing plates, that have rusted in half. i have had axles out of several vehicles before, no problems. but i had no idea i had a locking differential in this suv. it is an Eaton "MLocker", which i think is also called a G80. from what i have read tonight, some people also call it a gov-lock. i have done a lot of digging on this in the last couple of hours, but i still can not find what i need to know. the main thing i need to know is if i can remove the spyder gear shaft, so i can remove the "c" clips that hold the axles in, so i can remove the axles. WITHOUT parts falling or flying apart. i have worked on open face rear differentials many times, and even 4 old school posi units. but i had no idea that this even existed until i pulled the cover off a few hours ago. also, does anyone know if i should be using the kendall friction modifying fluid for posi units in this? i changed oil back there 2 years ago. and of course, to mobil 1 synthetic. but like i said, i had no idea it was a locker.
