2000 Sierra Gearing

I just bought a 2000 Sierra 1500 regular cab short box, the previous owner put a 4 inch lift on it with 33s. I was just curious as to what are the gearing in axles i am assuming that they are stock. I have a heard of different ways to check the gearing like by spinning the rear tire and counting how my times the drive shaft spins for each spin of the tire, but have heard that if you do not have stock tires that it wont work. Does anyone happen to know the stock gearing for this model? or is there an easy way to check and see? Also when driving down the road when i hit the gas (not floor it but about half throttle) it seems to take a little long to actually get up and go. Its a nice truck and i really like it. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

In the glove compartment is service tag. On that tag are all the options codes for the truck. Take a look and note all codes the begin with a G as those are axle option codes. Post them here and someone will give you the answer.

Over size tires are never a good thing.

Today when driving it the engine was fluttering when I was going at a constant speed, it was very noticeable when I was going around 40 or so I'm not sure what it could be, tomorrow im going to clean the throttle body and take a look at the cap and rotor to see if that's causing the problem, I will post the codes tomorrow thanks.

gearing will not cause a flutter in the engine and if not in the glove box there should be an axle tag on the rear housing of the axle. a good gear for 33s would be like a 3.73 or so you dont want anything to extreme or your gasmileage will suffer and your power will as well. are you sure your truck has a cap and rotor?? i would think it would have coil pack. when was the last time you did a tune up?

i checked the rear axle housing already and there wasn't a tag on it, the only code that was in the glove box i saw was GT4, I know the bigger tires wouldn't cause the flutter thats why i thought it could be the tps, the owner before me said that he never performed a tune up so it is probably in need of one.

you have 3.73s so your gearging should be fine with those tires

Okay thanks, i got plugs and wires today and im putting them in tomorrow hopefully that will fix the problem with the flutter, i had one more question it has a 4inch zone life on it, but it can be cranked up to 6inches with the torsion bars, im assuming that if i do that, it will mess up the drive shaft angles?
