Hello people...I noticed in cold weather that I have heard clunking when backing out of my driveway, or over decent bumps in slow speed. Is this the torsion bar rubber mounts bad? I looked at them and they do have some cracks. Anyone replaced these mounts b4? Is it a pain? Is This common? thanks for any advise.

My guess is it's the sway bar bushings. If you are going to hang on to the truck, I suggest you get the polyurethane bushing instead of rubber.

I'm thinking it could be the sway bar bushings. If you need to replace them, get the polyurethane instead of rubber. Especially if you plan on keeping the truck. I don't think it would be a very hard job, but I don't know how much it changed between 1997 and 2000.

I agree sway bar end links are the most likely source. I've owned a couple of these trucks and never replaced a torsion bar mount but I'm pretty sure they would be a pain to replace.

ok thanks for the responses....i guess it does come from the rear too...so when i can I'll replace with poly bushings :)
