So my mom has had her car ever since 2002, taking it into the city even going out of state. Shes never had any problems with it until last year when her fuel pump went out. Well she got it replaced and after that her car has just gone horribly wrong.

Her car has been sitting in a shop for about 3 months and just now being able to find out whats wrong she found out she needed a manifold intake gasket. She got that repaired but codes were still coming up on the car. Well they ran the codes today and found out that she needs new fuel injectors and filters. I was wondering what the average cost and labor on these parts are because the mechanic said it will be around 1000 dollars but her not knowing anything about cars and all of a sudden having these problems she just wants to make sure there not trying to take advantage or anything.

Also, normally when you get a new fuel pump are they supposed to change the injectors also. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Shes planning on talking to other mechanics around here but just wanting to get some pre-info if possible. Thanks!!!!
Sorry, I dont have the codes but I can see if she can get them. Thing is. When she first put it there they had already checked on the first code which was the manifold intake. But she was not able to pay to find out what else was wrong.

Please have it checked out by another Shop. You can go to Auto zone and have them get the DTC codes. If it is your fuel injector system. Auto Zone has the up grade system to convert the SCPI to a MPI system which is more reliable. Please let me know how the Jimmy is running, could be a simple fuel filter replacement needed only and you can pick that up at Auto Zone and takes about 30 min to replace to give an idea how much you should be charged on replacing it. Average here is $45.00 fuel filter replaced, parts include.

Here is some info that needs to be looked at:
You need 3 things.
Compression
Good hot blue spark to all plugs.
Good gasoline and proper fuel pressure. 63-64 lbs.
If you have all 3 then move on to injector pulse to all injectors.
I think each injector is on a separate driver on your jimmy.
Check for pulse to all of them.

Here is the guide lines on testing the fuel pressure:
Check cold start fuel pressure.
Check engine running fuel pressure.
Check engine running on the road fuel pressure.
Then shut it off and watch for fast leak down.
Pinch off at rubber part or block off return line and check full pressure.
Later V6 and V8 gm engines should have 60-66 fuel pressure.
Cold start should be 64-65 lbs of pressure.
If you do not have full fuel pressure on a cold start the injectors will not squirt fuel.
Engine running should be 60-66 lbs pressure depending on engine load.
Full pressure with return pinched off should be 75-85 or more.
And if it has a fast leak down after shut off you have a leak.

The 75-85 is only a check on the capable full pressure of fuel pump.
If you can not find the rubber return line check full pressure by plugging return line or just or the true full pressure can be taken direct at the end fuel filter.
What are the pressure readings that you have done.
What are your cold start pressure readings?

Post back what DTC codes you have and fuel pressure if you did check, but start with the simple and have the fuel filter replaced and check the injector wire harness and lead connector on the fuel injector pack right behind the throttle body. Feel free to ask anyone of us here and welcome to the GMC forum
