hey y'all I recently purchased an 01 Sonoma 4wd with 166000 miles on it. when I first got the truck I noticed it was running very cool around 140-150 and getting terrible gas milage burned half a tank in 80 miles. put a new stat in and got it back up to 195 running temp and way better gas mileage. however I still don't think I'm getting as good as fuel mileage as I should or my gauge is in accurate. the other day I went to fill up with an eighth of a tank, with an 18.5 gallon tank, I should have put in a little over 16 gallons but it only took 12.5 gallons. has anyone had an issue with this or am I forgetting something? thanks

im going through the same problem

my gas light was on and i was only able to put in 11.89 gallons of gas.
does your gas needle flutter (move up and down)

i have a vid of mine at 3/4 and than it flutters all the way to full and a few inches past full than back to 3/4

i feel it may be the fuel sending unit/fuel pump but im tryign to figure it out before i spend money on buying new parts

just ordered a new fuel pump and fuel filter. so i will keep you posted if it fixes my problems

Had the same problem last winter. It progressed to a dead pump.
Pump wasn't too expensive, changing it can be a pain. Supposed to drop the tank, but with older truck, things are probably rotten & rusted.
I mapped out where the pump is under the bed then cut a hole in it. Used sheet metal, couple pop rivets ( on the corners) and some silicone & voila! Problem solved.
