I have a 2002 GMC sierra,I have had suspension problems on this truck since i bought it 6 months ago.Just minor but to the point its getting aggravating. It drives good but shakes or vibrates when i hit a bump in the road.I 1st thought it was coming from the front an it partly was so this is what i did:
Front tie rods
Front shocks
Front end alignment
Front tires
It is still doing it ,not horrible but still doing it.So saturday i changed the rear shocks an its still doing it.The truck never ever veers from side to side or pulls, the shaking/vibration seems its coming fromt he rear. The mechanic at michel tires said he feels it in the seat an feels like its coming from the rear.It drives very good even at high speeds til i hit a bump then i get that split second shake from the rear.I dont know what else it could be except rear tires ,so here is my question for any expert:
If it drives straight an doesnt veer or pull an drives great til i hit a bump whats the odds it could be a bent wheel or a bent axle or frame.and would some of those things come to light when i got the front aligned? like a bent frame? i am just over thinking .an if something like a frame or axle was bent what would i do? just go with it? have something replaced? not sure how smart it is to spend thousands on something like that even if it was that.Hopin its just tires
If its the center carrier bearings is this a major issue? cheap? expensive? soemthing mechanic will need for hours or days? And thanks for insight
Its not a 4x4 an i dont haul. Its got very good tires on them but maybe 50% tread left. i am gonna try tires this week though. Is the carrier bearing on the drive shaft a big deal..? i do recall when i had it looked at the guy from michel tires saw soemthing on the drive shaft that looked worn but another mecahnic said it was ok.It was a piece that fit into a another piece an had like a white rubber piece on it.wish i knew what it was called.looked like a u-joint kinda or where an old u joint would be on older cars.it was towards end on shaft towards the back.i know its vague but all i can offer
its the center support bearings ,i went an looked.Thats what 1 mechanic said anyhow. Is the center support bearing on the driveshaft the same as the center carrier bearings?
