Hey guys... do i need a timing belt?..360,000 miles
in recent weeks, the truck has been a little hard to start, feeling like it was flooded. Had to let it run for a minute or two before shifting into gear. Yesterday, I started hearing a clattering noise when starting. Sounds like timing is off. The noise would quickly fade, and did not return while driving. Today, the noise is worse, but again, faded and did not return when driving. Now, after returning from my trip, i purposely tried to restart my engine and the clattering noise is far worse... engine starts, but does not run well at all, if I shift into gear, it will stall immediately. The clattering noise sounds like its coming from the valvle train, and is similar to what I've always associated it with bad gas, or bad timing.

i guess everybody is on vacation...

so... Ive got the harmonic balancer off... and the timing cover off...and the front half of the oil pump. cant get the rear half off for access to the timing chain without dropping the oil pan it seams... and to do that, ive got to drop my front differential (its a 4 x 4) wow... this is a lot of work for part thats mounted right on the front of the engine.......gotta love GM
