2003 Envoy A/C Compressor on but it shouldn't be

I just purchased my 2003 Envoy a week ago. I have noticed that the A/C compressor activates when the re-circulate button is activated. The A/C switch is off,... The compressor only activates though when the blower fan is on. If I turn it off,... the A/C compressor never starts. I confirmed that the A/C is OFF.
When I turn the A/C on it work just as it should... but it should NOT activate when the recirculate button is on. ANY IDEA WHAT MAY CAUSE THIS?
