2003 Sierra 4wd Ext. Cab ball joint removal

I bought a ball joint removal kit with c-clamp and adapters. I ended up breaking the c-clamp while trying to remove the top ball joint. When removing the top ball joint you should push from the stud side up through? correct? Maybe I got it wrong. And should you push from the stud end of the lower ball joint or the top. I saw a diagram saying it should be pushed down, but there seems to be tabs on the side to prevent that. Anybody got any illustrations or any ideas? I like bolt in parts not pressed in parts!lol

well i got the bottom out by placing a jack under the control arm and using a sledge hammer pounded that sucker out! Now I need an idea how to do the upper ball joint!

It wasn't easy but got them both out and reinstalled them...however busted the abs sensor on the bearing... they wanted 136 for a new sensor...or a new bearing with sensor for 145...I ended up buying one on ebay for 63 delivered...
