2004 Sierra won't transfer back to 2-wheel drive

I have electronic push button to change from 2-wheel drive to 4-wheel drive. I engaged 4wd and now it won't shift back into 2wd. The light just blinks and blinks and then the light reverts back to the 4wd button.

I checked the fuses and they are fine.

I can hear the transfer case attempt to shift from 4 to 2 but nothing happens.

Any thoughts or suggestions?
