2005 GMC Sierra leaking transmission fluid when on hill.?

Took it into a transmission shop and they replaced the seals and yolk. Next day fluid leaked again. Now the guy says that its common for a truck with a small suspension lift to leak transmission fluid. He says the drive shaft needs to be extended because it no linger reaches the o rings properly? Anyone ever hear about this?

Why would it just start leaking after 5yrs? I would maybe understand that the seals were worn out from the 5yrs but I have been parking the truck on a hill for 3 years now and it just started. The shop replaced all the seals and its still doin it. Wouldnt that give me another couple years?

Yoke is worn and will need to be replaced, you can get away with it if it's not to badly worn and just buff out the yoke where the seals have been running on against the yoke. The other issue is you may need to the output shaft bearing which sounds like it worn and the yoke is moving around and will need to be replaced.

Get underneath the Sierra and inspect the movement of your yoke, if you have lot's of play, then replace the output shaft bearing along with the seal again and don't forget to have them buff out your yoke shaft to ensure that there is no burs or deep scratches. :eek:
 
I have a 6" lift on my 2003 and it just started leaking. It looks like it's leaking on the input side and it's flinging oil all over. I just strated a thread for it.

I agree that it does look like the shaft is extended due to the lift, but it's made to extend... I park on an uphill slope and it still leaks.

Where do you refill it at?
 
Where the tranny dipstick is? There is a separate filler? I guess I haven't paid that close of attention to it.

If you have a 4X4 then your going to have to fill your transfer case with transmission oil. There is a fill bolt that needs to be removed to fill it and there is also a drain bolt also which is the lower one of the two bolts on the transfer case.

If you have just a 2wd then you can fill the transmission through the transmission dip stick tube located on the passenger side by the fire wall and the it should be colored red as the engine oil dip stick is yellow.

Check the level of the transmission first before adding fluid, remember the engine needs to be at operation temperature and idling. So be safe and keep us posted.
