Door switch blues

My drivers side power door switch which operates the windows, heated seat etc. failed to operate. We took the switch on the passenger side and hooked it up to the
drivers side and everything worked. So I got a new drivers side switch and hooked it up and it didn't work. So I replaced it with another new one and it still didn't work.
If the passenger side switch works when hooked up why won't these driver side one not work? Its plug and play. It can't be a fuse because the passenger side switch works.
Can't believe it needs programming. Any ideas?
