Hello all,
I have had issues with my '06 sierra intermediate steering shaft since I bought it. Each time I take it to the dealer they lube or replace it. Everytime it eventually starts making the same knocking/rattling noise after driving for a while. Sometimes it may be longer intervals between services, but eventually it always goes back to making a noise. The sound and feeling is like an old truck used to make when the tie rod end would wear out and start to become loose, but I know it is the intermediate steering shaft. Now that my warranty has completely run out, does anyone else have problems with this and if so how did you correct it? Is it hard to replace this shaft or lube it? I really can't afford to spend the kind of money a dealer wants to repair, so anything will be greatly appreciated.

I have the same problem with my 06 Sierra! I have tried everything, it is REALLY annoying!!! .. I keep checking the front end in fear something has gone loose!!

Me too! Just bought 05 Sierra SLE crew cab and this noise is driving me nuts. Truck is immaculate otherwise but embarrasing when friends ride with me and say wtf is that noise.

the shaft is very easy to remove. 5 mins you only need to remove the upper shaft. Two bolts one under the dash and one under the hood. But rember do not turn the wheel with no shaft in becaues you will break your clock spring . This will put the airbag light on. then slide shaft apart from colum then go under hood and slide shaft apart remove shaft from in side the tk

Then take shaft apart and lube (shaft slides apart) Reinstall total job after you have done one or two is 15 mins.
