Having problems with transmission. 55,000 miles. Won't get out of 3rd gear. Check engine light on. When it shifts it bangs into gear. Took it to the dealer. Waiting to hear when they can get to it. They say they are busy with other transmission work.

This is one of multiple problems. Lift gate shocks replaced twice. Water pump has gone out. Steering pump has been replaced. DVD player does not work. Is this a lemon?

Have received multiple letters from lawyers wanting to persue legal action. Is this the way to go?

The Acadia is not at the dealer. They gave it back to me and said they could not get to it b/4 next Tuesday July 16. It will not shift out of 2nd or 3rd gear. Check engine light is on. We are leaving for vacation on Saturday July 20th for 18 days. They said they could not guarantee that it would be fixed by the time we leave. And we could only get a rental car from GM if they are working on it. And only until it is fixed. This may require me to get my own rental car as we need an SUV Type vehicle for our vacation. Need to find out from a legal point of view how to get reimbursed from GM for the rental. I will be checking that out. Anything you can do to help would be appreciated.

2008 GMC Acadia transmission fail 64k miles

Driving 45mph, when suddenly didn't seem to have power. Called my husband and he asked me to try a couple things and found out I only had 2nd gear. Had car towed to dealership where I was informed that clutch wave plate failed and required new transmission. Because I've had the vehicle over 5 years, it wasn't covered under warranty. Can't believe with all the complaints on this transmission that GM isn't offering a recall or help with assistance. I've talked 2 of my friends into buying Acadia because of my experience. Thank goodness they bought after 2010 which coincidentally GM revamped the entire transmission. Coincidence? I think not!
We have been loyal purchasers of GM for 25 years and my husband is Safety Coordinator so puts many miles on his pickups and replaces ever 18 months or so. His company has always bought GM for their fleet. Our opinion has now changed unfortunately GM's decision to disregard the issues with this transmission and willingness to help with the cost of repairs ($4500) lost them more than their assistance ever would have. The company and us personally will be looking to other Manufacturers for our buying needs!

I own a 2008 Acadia, the transmission went out while I was driving with my 6 month old son in the car. We could have been killed or killed someone else. GMC rebuilt transmission under warranty. The transmission is breaking again 26,000 mi later. GMC will not cover repairs. Its been 5 years and 108,000mi. They only cover rebuilt transmission for 12,000mi. GMC technician told me I was LUCKY to get another 26,000mi out of transmission. GMC knows this transmission is defective and DANGEROUS! I have filed a complaint with NHTSA.GOV.
A GMC Customer Service Rep contacted me through this forum. Case #71-1251973996 They were NO help. Just delayed the time my car was in the shop by 2 days. I was told by service center that I would not receive any assistance because it was the first GMC I purchased. I will NEVER purchase again.
I have contacted a CLASS ACTION lawyer. If anyone is interested in getting involved in the class action lawsuit please email me ASAP Mattmayberry80@yahoo.com

I am also having trouble with my 2008 GMC acadia transmission. My wife was driving down the interstate with our 3 year old, and the car completely lost power. It would rev up but would not go into gear. Luckily a man saw her and helped push her off the rest of the way off the road. This morning I had a mechanic run diagnostics on it, and it showed 4 codes relating to the transmission. The car only has 75000 miles on it and all I keep hearing from the 2 different tow truck drivers and the mechanic is that you should not be having these problems so early in the cars life. I have found several complaints about this cars transmission and edmonds even has 17 pages of complaints about it. The car ran out of its warranty in May. How can a family afford the $2000-4000 price tag on something most car people don't think should be going wrong so early in the cars life? Especially around Christmas.

2008 Acadia Transmission Problems

Am shocked to learn that my 2008 Acadia had a transmission failure with less than 75K miles on it. It started slipping out of gear on Friday and we took it to the dealership on Monday, just to learn that we were 3-weeks out of warranty and needed a $4700 transmission. Feeling kind of helpless and really irritated that this seems to be a well documented problem (this forum and others - like Edmunds.com - etc....) and there is seemingly nothing I can do about it. I'm quite frustrated with a car I once loved. Other than the liftgate shocks being replaced, we have had zero problems with the car. This will undoubtedly lead to a GMC divorce.

2008 Acadia transmission problem

My 08 Acadia transmission went out at 67060 miles while traveling on Christmas vacation 2 hours from home. After overnight hotel stay to wait for local dealership to open, had to rent a car to get home as found out trans was slipping in 2nd and 3rd gear and the 5th gear was completely gone. $3500 repair. My local dealership said it would be $4200 - $4400. Find out my car is 5 years and 4 months old to the exact date of the breakdown. Had to get it fixed with re-mfg GM transmission with 3yr/$100K mi warranty. GM said they could do NOTHING for me as I wasn't the original owner (owned the car since 11,000 miles). The dealership was nice and didn't charge me for the rental I had for over 10 days as I had to drive back 2 hours to get my Acadia. They also told me they gave me the transmission slightly under list cost. Very upset that GM will do nothing for a $3500 repair just 4 months old on the warranty and only 67060 miles later on my transmission!!!! After waiting over a week for a GM reply on something they could do to help me out and the reply was they can do nothing - - felt like I was stranded again by GM! I am still in disbeleif they did not help me any way. Do they not want my repeat business?

2008 GMC trans nightmare

I just went out to my wife's car and took it to get gas...check engine light came on so I used onstar to help me and they said it was 2 error codes from the transmission and I need to get into the service shop ASAP. I'm so nervous to do this based on all the horror stories I've heard...this vehicle was purchased as a certified vehicle and we've only put 30,000 or less on it...is their a recall for the transmissions? I've heard nothing but nightmare stories with GMC acadias. I love the car but I'm starting to have my doubts after reading these horror stories. We had a envoy and loved it...any advice??? Any one from GM want to help me through this???

More Transmission Problems

I just got my car back from a transmission replace and an oil leak. Sticker shock is not the word! $2600 for the transmission and $1600 for labor. The wave plate disintegrated. No reverse, 3rd and 5th gear shot. Ok, so I have 99,000 mile on the tranny, but this wasn't wear, it was a failure that destroyed the transmission and disabled the car. What amazes me is that this is a known problem that is posted by Acadia owners all over the web. It's also obvious from talking to the tech that even the dealer knows about it. What no recall, no safety check, no hey come in an let us have a look. From what I've read, the wave plate was not tempered correctly. So I'm not quite sure why I had to foot the bill for a known defect.

Part 2. The front cover oil leak. Same gasket was replace 2 year ago. When I ask if I was going to have to do this every 2 years, I was told no, GMC replace the gasket with a new improved one. Oh, seems GMC knew about that as well, and a $130 gasket cost me $1700 to install! Also told the repair is only warranted for a year! Nice!

Last part. I've always had problem with the Service Airbag light coming on. I've brought it in and the steering column was changes, brought it in again and was told the passenger harness needed replacing. It's been coming on intermittently, so asked them to look an see if there was a fault code in the system. No they wanted to replace the seat module. Sorry, I couldn't afford that.

You know, we love our Acadia. It's in real great shape, but it sure does have a high up-keep cost!
