I have a 2008 Sierra that has a vibration. I had the drive shaft looked at and it is fine, as well as the u joints. The truck will run smooth then start to vibrate for about 35 to60 seconds. the vibration will start slightly and get progressively worse and the then smooth out. Then it will run smooth for a couple of minutes and start the same thing over again. The vibration seems to be coming from the rear of the truck. Any suggetions would be greatly appreciated.Rick
 
When does it do it, what speed, what kind of truck 1500, 2500, 3500, 4x4, 2x4, reg cab e cab, oversize tires, suspension lift? Little more details please.
 
2008 Sierra 1500 4x4 Crew Cab. From speeds starting at 90 to 120km/h. It has the 20inch factory wheels. Rick
 
IMO its tires. One or more of them is "out of round" just enough to cause the vibrations at that speed. NO tire is perfectly round and you can balance them till the cows come home and they will still shake at certain speeds and it almost always 55 mph + and then at some point they will stop.

The other primary cause of vibrations is that the tire and wheel assembly isn't perfectly round. Face it, if we go out far enough past the decimal point, nothing is perfectly round. This includes your wheels and tires.

My 2012 Denali has 20-inch wheels and Goodyear LS2 tires. Another fella with a 2011 Denali told me his GY LS2 tires were no good and caused the truck to shake at highway speeds and replaced them. Tires are the first place I would look on a truck that is not that old. Its also possible it could be a bad wheel but that is often not the case, tires are the number problem when shaking and vibrations are a concern.

Personally the only tires I ever had balance problems with were GY. The cadi dealer rebalance the Eagles on my 05 CTS numerous times and replaced two under warranty for vibrations at highway speeds.

Thanks for the reply. I do think that i have one wheel that is a little warped. I will have to check it or just live with it. Rick
 
Just pick up a used 1500 extended cab 4x4 and noticed on the high way while excelerating there was a shake seemed to come from the rearend. Could it be in need of shocks, or you joints?
 
Shocks and u-joints don't typically cause that. More often than not, its tires.

Bad shocks will cause it to bounce a lot and ride terrible on rough roads. Bad -u-joints typically make noise, clicking, snapping or squeaking noise.
 
The other thing to check is that the wheel balancing weights are actually still mounted, I have had them come off before.
 
Bad bad u joint will cause the vib as well as a npoise or squeak. If 1 joint is frozen then for sure that will be the vib. Remove shaft and check joints for play and being stiff.

Also check your front shaft (turns all the time) u joint. these are comon to freeze and caues problems.
 
I'm not sure, but maybe there's a flat spot in the tires from sitting in the lot. I'm got to have the wheels balanced hope that's all it is. Though it seemed to only have when excelerating at high speeds.
 
Decieded to pull the wheel covers off and take a look at the wheel weights. I found a crap load of dirt and dried mud stuck in the rim, figured this could affect the balance of the wheel. Smooth ride now.
 
Pulled the wheel covers and found the rims had some dried mud and small stones stuck in there. Figured it was enough to through it out of balance.

Did you find out what was the case of the problem I have the same thing found on with my 2008 gmc sierra
 
My sierra denali 1500 4x4 2016 have a same problem, but my truck make vibratios on 35 to 50 mph. In high velocitys is very much rare.
Have tires mud terrain in 33x12.5
Suspension rough country with reservoir front and rear
No level up
The tires or rims are balanced
Motor 6.2 automatic transmission
No check engine in dashboard

Any solution..??
