Dealer says use oil life, so i've been going by oil life. Truck has 83,000 km. At 30% oil life and 9500 km since last oil change, oil level was down (caught me by surprise being a newer vehicle, I don't check oil as often as I should and now I will) at tip of dipstick. Added a litre and still only brought up to halfway up crosshatch. Already did oil consumption test at around 50,000 km and was determined oil consumption was within limits. Now it seems much more. I've been doing some research into this problem with Vortec 5.3l with active fuel management and there are service bulletins concerning models up to 2009 but haven't found anything on 2010. Seems afm is causing oil to spray on pistons and rings which causes carbon buildup and oil loss through rings. Various fixes are available including an oil shield of some kind. Anyone know of bulletin that concerns this issue in 2010 5.3l Vortec with AFM? Thanks.
