I have a 2011 GMC Sierra exstended cab pickup, It rides so rough I'm thinking about getting rid of it and bying a Ford. Is there a way to tell by the serial no. if it is a 1/2 ton or a 3/4 ton truck. It does not say any where on the truck. And what is the normal GVW of a 1/2 ton truck. It has P 265/65/R 18 tires. Help Charles Etsaboy@aol.com

easy way to tell is does it have 6 lug or 8 lug wheels. Also you say it has p tires on it so should be a half ton. 3/4 ton tks have Lt tires.

Does it say "All Terrain" on top of the front fender?

The tire size fits that option pkg. I had a 2010 Sierra All Terrain Z71 and I thought it rode very rough as well, every crack in the road felt like I was hitting the curb. It has Rancho Off-Road shocks and they are as hard a shock as you can get. Look at them, they are all white. Lots of people love the stiff ride but I could only take it 1 yr and 9 months. Now have a Sierra Denali and the new owner says he loves the way it rides, like a truck should.
Btw - If you are not careful you can buy a Furd that rides just as bad.

Rough ride

No it does not say All Teran and it looks like normal shocks , thanks

The only thing left to check is the tire pressure, should be 35 psi max. You do not have a 2500 (3/4 ton) with 6-lug wheels.

The GM trucks are the best riding of all of them so I can't understand why yours ride so rough, unless you drive on really bad roads or its the first 4 wheel drive truck you have ever owned/driven. Nor does not sound like you have a truck with jacked up suspension or oversize after-market tires which will after ride and handling.
