I need to talk to someone who has had the opportunity to work on a hair pulling case like this.
My customers 97 1500 suddenly developed transfer case shift problems this winter.
Sometimes it would shift, sometimes it would'nt. And sometimes it would get stuck in a certain range.
Then it finally stuck in 4 low and stayed there. After troubleshooting a bad encoder motor (I figured it was the wear and tear of 260,000 Km) I replaced it with a new Dorman unit. It lasted about one dozed shifts and also snapped inside. The case was a little stiff shifting but did'nt seem that bad. I took the case apart anyway but can't find anything to cause a stiff shift.
The shift selector is a little sloppy in the case bore but not terrible.
I,m changing all bearings seals and fork inserts as well as the poppet spring and plunger.
if anyone knows of a common problem I'm missing here I would sure be gratefull to hear from you , Thanks ,Wally.
