If any of you have upgraded your jimmys for offroading i would appreciate suggestions. Just grabbed an slt 4 door 4x4 off of craigslist and i want to slowly work it into an off road capable truck. (More so than now anyways)

Specs.
1996 GMC Jimmy SLT 4x4
4.3 ltr V6
Stock everything
(4Lo doesnt work for some reason.)

For 4L try putting the transmission in neutral before attempting to engage it. That's a general rule on most 4X4

I have the exact same vehicle as you with these upgrades:
Dual exhaust
4" lift
Upgraded Shocks
Rebuilt Motor and Transmission
Upgraded Fuel Pump
Upgraded Fuel Injectors
Ungraded Alternator

This is the second offroading car I've had and I'd say shocks are first and foremost, then a lift. My last car was a 1991 Nissan Pathfinder and it was all stock and it did fine until the engine started sputtering and I had to let back itself down despite being wedged on a rock, tearing up my transmission
