81 Gmc turns over but won't fire up at all

Hey I got a 81 gmc Sierra grande with a 350. It's turning over but won't start, and it keeps turning over till it dies... But it fires up if i get a jump...which blows my mind. I put gas in it and it started doing this a week ago it runs fine when it starts. It's getting plenty of fuel to the carb. I'm at a loss of what to do its got brand new spark plugs/wires I'm wondering if it could be a bad coil? Or a module in the dist. But I have no idea.., any help is much appreciated!

it sounds to me like You have a bad ground connection somewere

Thanks bud I burnt out the starter trying to start it haha but figured out I had a bad module she runs good now
