Hey guys,
Did a search and couldn't quite find what I was looking for-
I have an 89 sierra - auto - 700 r-4 trans-
All was fine until about a week ago my brother hit a pot hole- almost immediately I no longer had any gears- We pushed it home and let it cool down- started it back up and for the first minute or so we could go forward and reverse (didn't test drive, just basically rolled forward and rolled backwards) and then could no longer shift into any gear at all.
We dropped the pan, noticed a very small amount of metal specks but no big chunks or large pieces- changed the filter and about 5 qts of fluid- Started it back up and we were able to shift into drive and reverse, but it wont shift out of first (even if we manually start in 1 or 2)- I have noticed that at times it used to hit the gear hard when you would shift from park to any gear-
I believe that the pump is working because when its on the trans level (on the dip stick) is different then when the truck is off-(While troubleshooting I read online that that could be a quick way to tell if the pump is working)
I traced all the lines and I don't see anything unplugged or loose- There are no lights on the dash indicating a problem-
It also seems like there's a slip when it should shift to 2nd, but then remains in 1st-
Its just very odd to me that all was well and then we hit a pot hole and the trans went to H***...
Any help would be great guys/gals-
