I am having an issue with my old truck not wanting to start again after running. there are times it will take two or three times to get it to start again. i will start it, it stalls, start again, it stalls. anyone have any ideas what I need to check or replace? It's not throwing any codes?
thanks!:)

NO codes, good chance that it's going to be a dirty fuel filter or a week fuel pump. Start with the simple and replace the fuel filter first and clean your EGR valve.

Post back on how things are and we can go on from there. :D

Molson.......,

I haven't forgotten to get back with you, I've been out of town and haven't had the time to work on Old Blue. I'm planning to do what you suggested this weekend and will get back with you. I'm hoping it's something very simple. The truck has been running great since you told me how to get the timing correct and we put a new catalytic converter on it. Thanks again for all your help.

Food for thought, have your ICM (ignition control module) tested after your have replaced the fuel filter and cleaned the EGR valve if your still having the starting issues and stalling. But i am leaning toward the fuel filter. ;)

I had a similar hard starting deal happen on my 99'. I had leaky injectors which were causing a rich start condition. New injectors fixed it in my case. The tell tale sign was a mild black soot puff while trying to start. I constantly had to put the pedal in clear flood mode. The injector would leak down 30-40 psi in a half an hour after shut down. ( should stay at pressure)

Hope this is useful in some way.

Guess this might be more helpful for guys with the newer model trucks. Oops
