94 GMC sonoma engine dies while driving?

I just replaced the starter in it 2 days ago. Now when i drive it will start to jump a bit then the engines rpm will drop so low its not even running, ill lose power steering, and my fuel gauge needle will go way past the full mark, There is also the smell of burning plastic as its dieing. I think its a short but i dont know where to start looking.

Did you get a brand new aternato? Because the one that you get at a auto parts are not new they are rebuild, Sometime they last 30 days with a lifetime warranty

Check all the wires going to the starter. Make sure you the nut is tight on the starter that the wires go to. Make sure that the power wire coming from the battery is not shorted. Sometimes they get up against the exhaust.
