I recently purchased a 96 sierra with a crate engine that I was told was about a year and a half old. It has been running flawlessly until just recently when while backing out it just died on me. It started right back up and idled fine. Today however it just kept dieing on ne while in gear at low speeds. When I got on it the truck ran fine however...on the way back a short time later it started crapping out on me again and this time it started buzzing at me like the door was ajar and my ABS light and regular brake light on the dash came on. Once again the truck idles fine when I first start it and is in park. Any ideas?

Start with the simple and replace your fuel filter and check the fuel pressure at the shredder valve. You need 62-65 PSI to start the engine and will drop about 5 psi when the engine is running. Anything lower will give you the issues your having.

The other thing also that would cause this is a Ignition switch going bad and will need to be replaced. The ignition switch goes bad from lots of keys on the key ring which adds weight to the switch and wear out the contacts in the switch from the lateral pull from the keys.

Start with the simple and replace the fuel filter and inspect the ignition switch. Good luck and keep us posted, was there also any check engine lights on??? A dirty fuel filter or bad fuel pump will not set a check engine light. ;)
