New to the forum. Hopefully someone can help with this. I have a 1996 Suburban with a 5.7 that I recently swapped out with a 1996 5.7 from a donor vehicle. The problem is the crankshaft position sensor has a groove cut into it. Could this be from the timing chain? What could cause this? Thanks in advance.

Welcome aboard! And thank you for signing up. It could be that the tone ring is lose and wobbling around, cutting into the crankshaft position sensor.

Crank sensor

The sensor is too far in or the timing cover has a problem. You may want to consider shimming it slightly or replacing the cover (major job BTW). Mech
