My 97 had a code for a catalytic converter and at the same time, when I kicked in the passing gear, it would start shaking and the check engine light would flash, then it would settle down and the light would stay steady. The GM dealer said to replace the converter then if it acts up, we can recheck it. I changed the converter, and no light, until I kick it down, the light doesn't come on, but it still feels rough running. Does anyone have any ideas what I could check before taking it back to the dealer? I'm thinking maybe the rotor or coil is going back and acting up at the higher rpms? Any help would be appreciated.
