HELLO TO ALL,
I just signed up to be a member an I'm hoping for some good advice. I have the opportunity to buy a 97 GMC Suburban at a good price, however it will only move in reverse.

Truck is mint. 131K, engine is strong, interior & seats great, tires good, fluids look pretty clean but it has been sitting for about a year. Once I've started it up I can go in reverse with no problem, go to N, non problem, go to D I can hear a little bit of noise hard to discern what it sounds like, but when I cycle all the way from D to 3 no noises, same as I come back except a bit of noise going back through D into Reverse. I've put it into 4x4 both HI & LOW and repeat the steps above and still the same outcome.

From what I've read, it appears the transmission is shot. BUT, if someone can provide me with a different solution to fixing this problem please post back. I[m hoping for a small miracle.... ..

If in the end it's proven to be a bad tranny, what is the price of buying a rebuilt one? Or should I try to part out the truck? Or should I walk away from it. Any guidance will be greatly appreciated.

thanks,

found rebuild tranny with 2 yr. warranty

So, I found a tranny that has been rebuilt and it comes with a 2 year warranty for $650.00. Should I make the buy how can I confirm that it is indeed going to fit? What info that I do have is that it's a GMC 4L60E 4x4 trans. My truck is the 97 GMC 4x4. It should fit correct? I assume that's a fair price?

you need to go to a dealer and give them your vin number. They will tell you what transmission you have. Unfortunately it sounds like the transmission has gone out. It's not as hard as it seems to replace, I did mine while she was on 4 6 ton jack stands no problem. If you need help let me know.
