'98 Jimmy No dash lights with headlights on

I just got myself a 98 Jimmy. It's practally in mint condition, but I didn't find out till I got it home that the dash lights go totally out when the headlights come on. I cannot see my speedometer, stock radio display nor the overhead temp/compass console. The dimmer switch is turned up, but I found if I roll it all the way up and click it up to turn the dome lights on, the rest of the dash lights up. Is this a bad dimmer switch or maybe just a fuse? If it is the switch, would anyone have a part number for it?

Sounds ( to me ) like the switch as the dash does light up at some point.
Stop by , or call a parts store and they can hook you up.
also you check out parts stores online .

And - you might want to get a repair manual for this ( to get the dash apart )
and other repairs /info for your ride.

my jimmy had the same problem the only time i could see the dash was at night (this was also only when the headkights were on) and i could only bareley see them at night, it was the dimmer switch there sould be screws underneath the dash under the dimmer switch, easy fix

I have a dimmer switch on order, I hope that will fix the problem

Installed the dimmer switch and everything is back as it should!
