I own a 98 Sierra with a 5.7l engine. It has 325K on it. A few years back it started ticking after cold starts when it had been sitting for a few days. This has gotten progressively worse. It would appear to me that the oil is draining from the lifters when it sits and it takes a bit of time for it to get the oil pressure back in them after it starts. Is there an easy fix for this (oil additive?? etc). Replacing the lifter(s) is the obvious solution, but with 325K on it, I don't think I want to go there.

Try some sea foam use about half the bottle in the crank case. Drive it for bout 100-200 miles then change your oil. If this does not fix it I would think about replacing. I had the same problem and this fix it right up!
