I am having issues with my 99 Sierra Z71 4WD not working properly. Its the 5.3 with the push button 4WD...Last winter I went to engage it and the lights on my dash would just blink instead of going solid once it engages, after checking some forums and doing some research I replaced the actuator on the front transfer case and also changed the fluid which did nothing to make it better...This week seeing we are getting ready to start into bad weather again I replaced the Transfer case shift motor. I can now hear the motor doing the action when I push the buttons but the dash lights still continue to blink like its not fully engaged and my truck even acts like its in 4WD but only my back wheels have torque...I tried gravel, pavement, grass, and other various situations to make the 4WD work and it wont, Any suggestions on what it may be? I'm stumped

Yes I am having this exact same problem i hear things working down there but nothing is happening, i checked my fuse on the side of the dash there and the 4WD fuse was burnt out i changed it and turned on the truck to try again. when i pushed the button the fuse blew immediately. i dont think its the switches it must be a short somewhere in the system between the buttons and the first switch. can anyone else point us in the right direction?

here is my finding so far i went underneath and unplugged the actuator in the front diff and now its not blowing a fuse. i am wondering is it possible to service it yourself or can you only buy a new one.

well it turned out that for me it was just the actuator must have shorted. it doesnt look like the actuator was damaged but i replaced it and now i am having a great time driving in the snow again.
