Recently purchased a 99 w/ 160 on the clock. Numerous repairs have been made, which made it a viable buy, but everyday I am noticing things that don't work. My odometer reading does not display, nor does my gear selected light up. Is this a one bulb fix or multiple. What type of bulb & is there any "how to"
remove dash panel info available? Also my in-floor shifter does not light up. Heater is putting out ALL the time. Owner told me some "switch" is out. She said there is a valve on the firewall under hood that has to be turned for either heater or a/c. Heat is on constantly[hot]:owhat switch needed to fix & if I partially close the valve under hood, will that cut the degree of heat being generated? also, radio controls on steering wheel, one side does not light up. Any help appreciated. Simply would like whats there to work. Thanks

Hi !
To start , you might want to buy a Haynes ( or other brand ) manual.
The Haynes is O.K for basic repairs such as " how to get the dash apart " or
" how to replace a switch after the dash is apart " with pics to help.
about 25 bucks but imo worth the money ( mine paid for itself when i needed
to change a switch in the dash : ) .

As for the heat issue - by " all the time " , do you mean fan is constantly on , or
when you move the temp setting nothing changes ?
If its " nothing changes " , then it could be a problem with the switch or a vacuum
issue .
Also - look thru the forum and see if you can't find some threads on heater issues
( they are there )
Also also - I have a Haynes that covers your year , I can't find a reference to
a switch under the hood that switches from one mode to the other...

Re: Jimmy

Haynes manual sounds like a good idea. Someone installed a cut-off valve in the heater hose. When valve is open & water running to heater core, it's producing heat same as it would if you had your fan off & your temp knob turned all the way over to hot. I'm pretty sure they put ths valve in place to have heat until they could sell it. There is some control or switch not working that cost more than having this shut-off put in place. I am hoping someone can tell me how to troubleshoot this & what it Might be. Thanks for your reply, I appreciate it very much.
Steve:)
