Hi, I'm new to both the GMC forums, and the GMC Sierra as well.
I recently traded in my old car (1998 audi A4) for a 1999 GMC sierra 4.3 reg cab short box Z71 because I bought a new Honda Rancher and I needed a way to haul that around and my audi was rapidly showing signs of wear and tear of the age and mileage (170k miles)

I've owned it for a little over a month now and am already finding minor things that I would like to find a solution for.

1. When I put the truck into park the doors do not automatically unlock, very annoying for passengers and myself to press the unlock button. Not very serious but annoying.

2. When I turn my brights on my airconditioning turns on and will not turn off when I press the A/C button or go back to low beams.

3. sometimes at idle/acceleration, it will misfire but throw no CEL's or codes.
The truck has relatively low milage (130K) Doesn't matter if the engine is cold or warm.

Is there anything else I should look for or know about these vehicles?
I knew my previous car inside and out and would like to do the same for this thing.
I am a Do it your selfer and prefer to keep my vehicles out of the shop.

any input or help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!

My girlfriend has recently acquired a 99' 4x4 3dr. I do all the work and have the same inquiry about the locks when shifting into park. Everything works, but would like to know if there is anything to watch for. Thanks in advance

Try reseting the codes on the computer. On older vehicles in order to reset the computer one must disconnect the negative on the battery for a few minutes. (I believe it its a compute thing - it is what I would do first). I ave seen some CPUs on eBay and they are not that expensive. You could take it to a dealership and let them do diagnostics and then fix it yourself. Helm Inc (Helm.com) has factory manuals.

Nice. Thanks 02blkSS! I've done a good bit of work to the 99', so it's going much better down the road now. Just wanted those little things figured out.
