i just bought a 99 sierra 4.3l recently, didnt come with ac...

so now im trying to fix it...

anyways i went ahead and charged it up, ac blew cold for 2 weeks then i started hearing squeaking when the compressor kicked on...

ac started blowing warm again...

so i went ahead and tryed to recharge again and right when i get to the point of the compressor turning on, it just turns on for a few secs making a bunch of rattling then turns off and it wont take a charge now...

does this mean compressor is shot?

From what you describe, I don't think anyone can tell you for sure if the compressor is cooked. But chances are, it is. You said you recharged the system. You didn't say if you evacuated (sucked all the air/refrigerant out) the system, or if you added oil or dye, or the condition of the serpentine belt (fan belt), or if you're getting liquid from the low press port.

I just replaced a leaking compressor. 1-800-radiator. $440 for the kit and new refrigerant. Be prepared, it ain't cheap.
