New member. Any help would be appreciated. How do I identify which alternator is on my 2003 5.3. I am being told there is a 105 and 145 amp model that were put on these engines. Is there an easy way to distinguish between the two?

Look in your glove box for the pro codes. Your going to have K62 or K68 which would indiacte that you have a 105 amp altornator. If your have KG3, then your sireea will have a 145 amp altornator.

But if its not going to cost you any more for the 145 amp altornator, might as well install that so your batteries will not be taxed as much if your running auxillury lights and electrical equipment such as a trailer. The 145 amp will bolt right up and plug right in to your exsisting charginf system. ;)

Wrong Alternator

2004 GMC Sierra 1500. I went to Autozone and bought an alternator. They had a 105 and 145 amp choice for my truck. I said well give me the better one. it was a little bigger, but plugged in and mounted fine. Tried to start the truck with a good battery, and won't start, no mileage display on the dash gauges going crazy. Brought the old one and returned the new one, turns out they gave me the wrong one, should have been 105. Installed 105, same problem, proceeded to check all of the fuses inside and out, all were good. It almost starts, struggles like not getting fuel, and no display on like fasten seat belt, mileage, display flashes mileage then off. Any ideas have to have it towed at this point, I guess to the dealer. Thank you for any help.
