another radio question

I have a 2005 Envoy. The stereo went bonkers. One at a time the speakers stopped working. Then some would come back for awhile, then go out. Now only the tweeters in the front work. It is a non-Bose system. I was told it might be the amp. Does the non-Bose system have an amp? What could be the problem. the speakers are in good shape.
