I could tell my alternator was going bad. Dash lights started to flicker, lost guages, car didn't turn back on. I replaced the alternator with a used one as I don't want to spend 200.00 on a new one, and it seemed fine, reading 14 amps... But then, next time I turned it on, it read 11.5/12 amps. Slowly while driving 10 or 15 miles it reduced to 9 or lower and I lost guages and once I turned it off, it wouldn't start again. I replaced the alternator again... withe a new/used one. It starts, reads 11.5/12 amps and slowly reduces down to 9 while driving, lose guages, and once I turn engine off, it won't start again... What's my next step? I can't find the alternator fuse, if such thing exists. Found the fuses for just about everything else though. Please help this novice frustrated yukon owner out.

Thanks

In my opinion you are replacing the alternator needlessly. I am betting that it's the battery that is giving you problems. Batteries can go bad, and display the symptoms you mentioned. There are plates in the battery that can short out. You didn't state what year vehicle you have, if it's still under warranty take it to the dealer to have it checked and replaced. If it isn't, alot of places can check it for you, such as Pep boys, Sears, etc etc. good luck.
