my blower motor quit working on #5 then #4 can anyone help?
 
Heh... I feel you man...my blower on my '05 only works on 5! lol
 
Good chance that the blower motor speed resistor needs to be replaced and the high speed blower relay has gone bad. GM has a kit to replace the speed resistor and the wire harness for the blower motor which is common for it to burn out or short out. Good luck and keep us posted.

You need to replace the Resistor's wiring harness too. GM Tech Bulletin on that. The resistor causes a overheat condition and the stock harness is not the proper AWG, and it causes the wires to melt.

Go purchase this part number # 15862656. The bad part is, it's a GM only part number and they retail at $95.00.

Here is a copy of it, notice, it says to repair the connector at the resistor.

Condition

Some customers may comment that the blower will only work on low speeds or has become inoperative.

Correction

REPLACE THE BLOWER MOTOR RESISTOR AND RESISTOR MODULE CONNECTOR.

Replace the blower motor resistor and module connector using the following procedure:

Remove the blower fuse.

Fullsize Trucks and Utility Vehicles - Htr A/C & HVAC 1 fuses

Midsize Utility Vehicles - Blower Fuse 35 located in the Underhood Fuse Block

Lower the hush panel or close-out panel enough to gain access to the resistor module connector.

Disconnect the connector from the resistor module.

Remove the tape from the wiring harness to expose the wiring.

Cut the wires back far enough from the connector to eliminate any melted insulation on the wire.

Tip

Use the old connector as a map for splicing the wires for the new connector. Be sure to use the correct crimping tool from the terminal repair kit J 38125. Use only Duraseal splice sleeves. Other splice sleeves may not protect the splice from moisture or provide a good electrical connection.

Install the new connector. Use the yellow splice sleeves provided with the connector.

Install new blower motor resistor.

Reinstall the fuse or connector block. Test the blower motor to make sure all speeds are functional.

Reinstall the hush panel/close-out panel.
 
If it's like my 01 Chevy, passenger side, under the dash (the cabin air filter area). You should see a wire harness (6 pin flat) - that connects to the board in question.
 
When mine burned out, it burned in such a way as to make the blower RUN on #5 all night - it drained the batteries.

So be aware, it can burn in such a way as to make it so it won't work, or in such a way to make it work even with the enge off and key out.
 
What Now

My blower stoped operation in all speeds. I replaced the blower resister and the terminal, now speed 1 - 4 are once again operational. But 5 still is not functioning. Does any one have any suggestions.
 
If 1-4 work and 5 doesn't, check the 30 amp fuse (thats what it is on my 2001) under the hood in the fuse panel (Climate Control fuse). 5 is the only speed that is affected if that fuse is blown. If any of the 1-4 speeds don't work, it is most likely the resistor. If the fuse is blown, simply replace it and you should have all speeds. If the fuse is good, and you still have no 5, the problem is probably in the switch or the wiring. It is likely NOT the blower motor itself. 4 and 5 not working at the same time is likely two different problems, and most likely the resistor and the fuse. Hope this helps.
 
On my 2003 2500HD, the first four speeds suddenly quit working, then a couple of days later, the fifth speed also quit. Cold air still drifts in as the truck is moving, but no blower. I have replaced the two climate control fuses (10 & 30 amp) to no avail. Is there an under hood fuse that could cause this, or am I destined to replace the resistor, etc.? Thanks.
 
on 2005 sierra

On my 2005 sierra I replaced the resistor and at first it didn't work then restarted the truck and started working and worked all day then the next day started the truck and no fan again.. when i put my volt meter on the red wire it was good @12.5 volts then when i put the tester on the purple wire it read 000s I thought it was supposed to read 3.4 then with the key on it was to change. but it might go to 2 volts then back to 000 I checked the fuses and they are fine any suggestions???:confused:
