I have a 95 jimmy 4wd 4.3 vortec, when you start the car cold and drive it down the road it will blow a lot of smoke looks bluish gray. It will miss when you first start it cold. In a matter of a minute the miss will go away truck runs fine. You can drive truck and as it gets to normal temp range the smokeing will quit, You can park truck let it sit 10-15 mins start it and it will have miss again which goes away,Drive truck no blue gray smoke.Let sit 9 hours start it it will miss and blow blue gray smoke until warm again.I see no indication of water in oil, I'm thinking that intake gasket is bad and as truck warms up everything expands and seals up spot in gasket? Any ideas anyone? Any info would be greatly appreciated.

solved

found out it had a blown head gasket, It had a small crack in the no 6 cylinder by the water jacket. Quess as it would warm up it would seal itself up. Fixed it

Thanks

Thanks for posting the solution.

How did you diagnose the head gasket leak? Did you have to do a tear-down to find it?

answer on blown intake gasket (ttiwkram)

I did a compression test all cyls, It tested fine. I wrestled with the idea that it was the head gasket . I finally just tore it down and found that it had a small crack in the gasket by the water jacket, Guess it would seal up as it got warm and would expand everything. Works fine now since replacement.
