When I was looking for a front end actuator for my '96 suburban; I came across a push/pull cable manually operated actuator on Ebay.
The cable replaces the actuator on the differential and goes into the cab where it mounts under the dash.
I presume that when you put the transfer case into four wheel drive; you push or pull the knob to engage the front end.
Has anyone used one of these setups? How did it work for you?
