I am new to gmc and gm I bought my son a 1992 gmc sierra z71 he is turning 16 next month. The truck has 210,000 miles and about 6000 miles on a rebuilt motor. It has developed a rough idle, and when you stop and the truck returns to idle upon acceleration it will bog down for several seconds and then catch and take off, often barking the rear tires. I have already changed the iac, tps, and egr. Looking for any insight I am at a loss.

check your cap and rotor if the rotor is burnt on one end and not on center
then the distributer is not phased correctly
this if your truck is crank fired ( crank sensor behind the harmonic balancer ) and the distributor is only used to send voltage to the sparks plugs

I changed cap, rotor, wires and plugs today rotor looked burnt where it contacts cap, I am not a mechanic how can I check phasing

at the end of the rotor that goes past the posts in the cap for the plug wires
the burn mark is it on center or one end of the approx. 3/8 wide metal area of the rotor
my old truck had a miss/stumble when I replaced the cap and rotor I saw the burn mark off center of rotor, I loosened the distributor rotated it opposite direction of the burn mark , no more miss and it ran better
what happens is as the ignition advances and retards the rotor is not in line with the post in the cap so it cant transfer the voltage/spark easily

before you turn the distributor make sure it is a crank fire system there will be two wires coming from behind the harmonic balancer

Sounds more like a fuel regulator issue to me. Have you checked it?
