Ok so I bought a 2000 Jimmy with 200K miles on it and have fixed a few things. The hydraulic rods for the back window were busted, the radiator hoses were bad, etc...

I have tried my darndest to figure out what my "check engine" light is on for but I cant seem to fix it. Are there common culprets for this light to be on? Is there anyone near the balt/dc area with a reader that could help me figure it out?

Any help or tips for things to check would be great. The car runs perfect I do hear a little belt whine in the engine but thats not concerning me. The only thing I havent been able to figure out is that the truck sometimes just wont go when I turn it on. I get a little bit of gas on her and nothing then all of a sudden the engine decides to kick in... its strange.

Anyway thanks :D

To many things that can cause the check engine light to come on, it could be from a bad gas cap, bad secondary air pump to a transmission issue. Not sure if Auto Zone still scan for the DTC codes free of charge and when the issue has been addressed. The check engine light will reset it self after the third start up.

Good luck and keep us posted and hope it's just a simple gas cap that needs to be replaced and not a Evap issue, which is a PITA to track down what needs to be replaced.

So the gas cap is broken actually funny thing. The white inner part with the threading on it is separated from the black cap with the turn handle on it... could that actually be all it is? Or does it only put on a check engine light for a missing one?

gas cap

just a question , do you have to buy a new gas from the dealer or can i go to parts store to pick one up????, does it matter

Assuming the quality is good enough to seal, a gas cap is a gas cap guys....no rocket science there
