If I have a 78 Sierra and when I start it the voltage doesn't wanna go past 10 until it's warmed up, if I feather the gas it won't die but if I don't it will die, once it's warmed up it has no issues charging and holding 14 amps just the initial stArt mainly when it us cold. Any help will be greatly appreciated

One of the diodes in the voltage regulator has gone bad and will need to be replaced. The best is to replace the whole alternator cause most likely the bearing will be next to go on the alternator.

Good luck and keep us posted.

A few weeks ago my power was surging so I replaced the alternator which had the internal regulator. Did I maybe get a faulty part? If it was this again would it do it all the time it just initial cold start?
