Have a few questions...three in fact,
We have a 89 GMC SLE Suburban two wheel drive 350 Chevy engine,

First, is is a clean project to swap for a new 454 engine...I guess the real question is, did 89's SLE come with 454 engine?

Second would be if they did I assume we could get a stronger transmission, one that would take the torque from the 454

Third, is it possible to take the original rearend and make it possittraction (sp)

Any help or sites would be helpful! THanks..gone camping this weekend...ready to roll

i'm not sure if it is a straight swap but the 2500 suburbans did have the 454 so it should fit and yes the trans will have to be replaced with a trans made for the 454 as the bellhousing is different and it is a heavier duty trans, and as for the posi you can either get the rear axle from a junkyard that has limited slip or if yours is still good just get an aftermarket limited slip carrier to put in yours detroit locker, eaton, and many other potions to choose from and you will have to get a different drive shaft to connect up at the trans may sit farther back and have a different yolk than yours.

you may be able to get the mounts and linkages you need from a 2500 suburban in a junkyard to save some money and problems as they are oem parts and should be bolt on to your truck. you may also want the 2500 rear end as the 10 bolt under your rig may not hold up to the 454 if you plan to do mods to the engine
