Thought I had something really wrong going on with my newly acquired 2003 envoy. It started out with the battery not charging. So I got an alternator from auto wreckers. Told me it works 100%. Turns out its shot too. So I got a new one. Charging good now. So then I ended up with a po code 105. Got told to clean throttle body. I did it. I started it and tried to rev up the engine. Can not rev it past 2000 rpm. Butterfly does not open when you try reving it up. Is this normal? I put it in gear and drove it and it seems fine. Revs up when shifting and shifts normal. Maybe someone can tell me if they can rev up there engine in park or if that's a safety feature that don't allow you to rev up past 2500 rpm. Or do I have a problem going on with throttle body or computer? This 4.2L is new to me. Worked on 3.8L and 4.3L lots. Any help would be good. Thanks chris

So took my envoy into the gm dealer and told them what I was dealing with. They told me it must be a safety feature that don't let you over rev the motor while in park. They could not give me a definite answer. There was a 2005 trail blazer in the lot. We started it and guess what, you can rev that motor in park!!! So wtf!!! I'm lost as to what it might be causing this. My mechanic at carstairs says the envoy does that. I don't think anyone knows what the hell its doing. But like always, the dealer is usually guess work. Send them back to school for the rates they charge to guess what's wrong with your truck!!!! Very frustrated that I can't get a straight answer from them and charge me $150 bucks

If you say the engine won't rev past 2500RPM in PARK, that is simply the computer rev limiter working properly. No need to panic, computer rev limiter will NOT let the engine rev to more than about 25-2800 rpm in park....that is for safety.. ;)
