diff

New addition to this forum but long term owner of gmc/chev vans. Should have been on here a long time ago. I bought the repair disc years ago but have misplaced it and for the most part this van keeps running although getting very rusty. Bought in N Carolina from owner who lived in Michigan so enough salt for sure. Was owned by Borg Warner and used as a chase truck-so it was fully loaded. Now the front diff has failed for the 3rd time since my ownership. This time the stub protruding from the drivers side front diff can move in and out by about 3/4 of an inch-its disengaged when out and wheel can turn freely with cv axle still installed-when pushed in the wheel does not turn. Used ones to Canada will run about $2000 cdn or $1150 US delivered somewhere in the US. Can not seem to find exploded view of differential to see what may have let go. A big question is whether the truck can be driven if i pull the front diff/ cv axles and driveshaft. Our old range rover had a viscous coupling to connect the front diff and it could be driven for a time without damaging the vc. Any chance I can do it with the van. Many thanks for any info and support in establishing a reasonable repair cost. Also have an issue with a leaking fuel tank-was noticed when they just did the recall on the rusty filler pipe-its the flange on the tank. My van has the opening doors on the drivers side so I understand that this tank is rare and expensive.
