At 8,400 miles my 2006 Sierra 1500 4x4 crew cab truck needed front wheel bearings replaced as the grinding sound was terrible. At 12,100 miles it needed front wheel bearings replaced on the other side as the grinding sound was terrible. This truck is only for occasional use (hauling things back from Home Depot and hauling garbage to the dump, etc.) and at 8,400 miles was 24 months old and at 12,100 miles was 42 months old so this truck has not seen very hard use. The second set of bearings cost $800 as the warranty is only 36 months. Is it common to replace both sets of wheel bearings at before 12,000 miles? Are the replacement bearing and hub assembly the same as original equipment or have they made them so they will last longer?
