I have a 02 sonoma 4.3 v6. All of the time my fuel gauge is pegged past the full line. Sometimes it will move all the way to the empty line and the low fuel will be lit (when this happens I have plenty of gas) then with in a couple of minutes it will go back all the way to the other side again. I rarely see the needle move at all. I never know how much gas I really have, I just go off of mileage. When I hit 200 miles I fill up. It would be great to have the actual reading. Also sometimes my abs and brake light come on together and then shut off. My question is would this be a bad cluster, or maybe the ecu (I hope not). I considered the sending unit as a possible victim but with the other things going on I figured it wasn't the answer.

Thanks for any sugestions or answers.

Sounds like you have a bad sending unit wire that has a break in it, if your lucky. The break is along your wire harness along the frame to the gas tank, and if your not. It's the sending unit that has the issue.

As for your ABS, check your break fluid and have the Sonoma scanned for the DTC codes. This will lead you the your ABS issue that needs to be addressed without guessing what needs to be fixed.

Start with these few things and keep us posted.:D

Thanks for the input. I will check it out as soon as I can. Also with the ABS light the e- brake light comes on as well but everything turns off shortly. Never seen that on any vehicle I have owened before.

Hello! I just purchased a 2003 GMC Sonoma 4.3 with an almost identical issue. Fuel gauge goes up and down randomly. ABS light is on almost permanently and Break light is also on more often than not. Do you have any advice on how to proceed to take care of this problem?
