Hey guys. Quick question. I tried searching, but it's a problem with too many common words I think.

My dad's truck, a 2000 Sierra 6.0L is having random issues where the fuel pump doesn't work. Keeps happening at the same store... I tell him to stop going there... but you know how old people are. He comes out, and it just cranks. And he can't hear the pump. If he waits like 15 min, it starts again, and then will get him home, and start every time he tries.

He's always owned GM trucks, and we're fairly familiar with a dead fuel pump. But this is baffling. I want to order a pump, but I go on rockauto, and they have two. Module TCU, and Module TCF.

The truck is running, now. And I don't want to drop the tank just to check which module he needs. He can't afford to waste time, as he needs it for work. And I'd lend him my F-150, but it's broken. Shocker, I know... haha.

How can I tell which module his truck has? Or is that something to worry about?

Thanks in advance.

Aaron.

if you have to get to the tank
don't drop the tank
unbolt and disconnect wires to the truck bed and tilt the bed up side ways
over the passenger tire have some 2x4's cut to correct length to hold the bed up
I works real nice I did it by myself once

Alrighty. Thanks a bunch. Him and I will try that next weekend. He mentioned making an access panel for the pump like his last truck.

It's weird. He's had no issue since last weekend. But it's happened at least 5 times! And he's such a cheap dink, he will just walk home and try it later!
Anyone had this? My BMW's have had fuel pump failures and its "either they work or they don't" they've never come back.

another helpful note
if you do but a fuel pump
don't buy a cheap one, like the ones from penny pincher
my buddy did it it didn't last a year so he had to do it again ,but they did replace it free
he just had to do the work again
make sure the o-ring seal area is clean and lubed so it assembles easily

a friend had dibree in his fuel tank so it would plug the pickup, stall, then he could restart it and it will stall later down the road again
it looked like a piece of a leaf but could have been paper

fuel pump module

Hello i am new to this site.A couple of years ago i owned a pontiac grand am,yes i know POS! Anyway that car would do the same thing. One day while it was not wanting to start i just swapped relays and the car started. Later i went to autozone and bought a replacement fuel pump relay and installed it and the car never did that again.Try swapping relays next time this happens..Hope this helps and good luck..

You can also check out LMC Truck and identify everything about his truck to better help you out. Their customer service is great and they can answer your question(s) like you have now.
