Just wondering what anyone has had succes with in getting better gas mileage on 2005-2007 Sierra, 6.0L, 4 speed transmission vehicle. Looking for cheap ways to go with this.

You will only be wasting money trying to improve mileage. There is no magic pill that will make you truck get better mileage. You are pushing nearly 2.5 tons of bulky metal down the road. The 6.0L is notorious for poor mileage.

Sure, there are air filters purporting to give you better mileage, custom tunes for the PCM, dual exhaust and the like. There will even be those who claim fantastic mpg improvements by using these items but keep in mind there is NO proof they do increase mileage, only cost you a lot of money you could have spent driving the vehicle or doing something else. Don't fall for all the hype, you can't install a performance chip, bigger tires, louder exhaust, drive like a racer and get 2mpg better mileage.

Some things you can do to make sure the vehicle is getting the most efficient use from a gallon of fuel. Keep the original size tires on it, oversize tires weight more, have more rolling resistance and change the way the engine and trans perform, almost always to the detriment. Keep the tires properly inflated, use the proper viscosity oil (use 5W-30 or 0W-30, not 10W-30, 15W-40 or 20W-50 create more drag on the engine) replace the air filter on a regular basis and no, changing to a so called performance air filter WILL NOT increase you mpg. Do not carry anything in the truck you do not need to carry, take off easy and drive easy, no sudden acceleration, speeding etc. Do all this and you might get 15mpg but many complain 12 mpg is norm for the 6.0L. After all its made to be a work truck, not a econo-miser. I know several who had a 6.0L in a 1500 and they got rid of it solely because it sucked gas big time and they all fell for the costly add-on's that did NOTHING to improve the mpg and actually cost them money because the got nothing extra when they sold or traded them in for those accessories.

you know what they say............... If you want gas milage buy a little 4 banger.

Me i don't care i will pay the gas bill to drive my full size tk. In the end for me only drive 15 min to and from work so not a problem. Unless you drive long distance. but rember even the 4 bangers are paying more to drive so in the end every ones paying the same increace.

gas will go down again just weather the storm is all.:)

MY 02 Yukon XL 2500 2wd 4.10 did get 13-15 mpg on the freeway. towing a 8200 lb trailer it got 9 mpg.

so far my stock 07 2500 Sierra 4wd 4 speed 4.10 is getting 11 mpg on the freeway. In two weeks I will be towing the 8200 lb trailer. I will let all know what the milege is.
